Prasat Sikhoraphum Conservation: Restoring the Splendor of Heritage

August 10, 2026

August 10, 2026

Prasat Sikhoraphum, one of the most beautiful Khmer temples in Northeast Thailand, located in Sikhoraphum District, Surin Province, was built in the 16th Buddhist century during the reign of King Suryavarman II of the Khmer Empire. The Office of Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Fine Arts Department, launched a conservation and restoration project for Prasat Sikhoraphum, employing 3D scanning technology to create digital models of the temple prior to restoration as reference data for future conservation work. The project also includes bilingual information panels, an augmented reality (AR) tour application, and local guide training — all aimed at promoting sustainable cultural tourism.
